IU Indianapolis Strategic Plan

• Information contained in the Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework is aligned with, and derived from, two strategic plan goals: Promote an Inclusive Campus Climate (Goal 9); and Develop Faculty and Staff (Goal 10)

Recruitment and Selection

• Executive Search Committees are charged by the Chancellor, Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC), and Indianapolis Faculty Council (IFC) President to conduct searches using the
• Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework
• Position profiles, descriptions, and advertisements include language from Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework
• Candidates at semi-finalist and finalist stages are asked behaviorally-based interview questions drawn from Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework
• Search Committee deliberations and recommendations to hiring officers incorporate perspectives from the Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework

Onboarding and Orientation

• New leaders are provided a customized onboarding experience designed to reinforce competencies and expectations outlined in the Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework
• Meetings between the new leader and peer leaders promote campus values and culture, including orienting the new leader to actions needed to promote leadership effectiveness at IU Indianapolis

Executive Coaching

• New leaders are provided an Executive Coach to aid in their personal and professional development as a leader; this lasts for several months and commences after the “settling in” period for the leader has concluded
• The Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework is referenced during Executive Coaching to provide the new leader an opportunity to assess strengths and identify areas for improvement

Performance Management

• On an annual basis, IU Indianapolis leaders complete a leadership self-assessment, which includes reflection opportunities related to the Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework; a subsequent leadership-centric discussion takes place between the leader and the Chancellor and EVC
• On a periodic basis, IU Indianapolis leaders undergo an improvement-oriented administrative review, jointly sponsored by the Chancellor/EVC and the IFC Executive Committee; the Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework is used in framing stakeholder input opportunities during this process

Professional Development and Capacity Building

• Content from two leadership series—Next Gen 2.0 and the New Chairs Academy—use the Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework to inform topics, guest speakers, and information shared with rising leaders and high-potential individuals at IU Indianapolis
• Meetings of various councils and cabinets—such as the Chancellor’s Cabinet, Council of Deans, and Academic Deans—reference the Leadership at IU Indianapolis framework to inform priorities and agenda items for these groups
